Ready for demolition
Title:  Ready for demolition
Description:  This rail bridge over Interstate 10 between a few miles east of Mescal/Benson is being demolished to eliminate height restrictions on this section of I10. Union Pacific recently opened a new segment that parallels I10 on the north side (left side of photo) and eliminates 2 crossings of I10. Does anyone know if this is the original Southern Pacific ROW, or the El Paso & Southwestern ROW? I haven't been able to determine the answer in my research.

New track
Title:  New track
Description:  This segment replaces the rail bridge taken out of service west of Mescal/Benson. The bridge crossing would be just below the upper left corner, where you can just make out the line of traffic on I10. Marsh Station Road is on the right (north) side of the track.

Pantano station water tank
Title:  Pantano station water tank
Description:  This water tank remains standing at the second site of Pantano, Arizona. The station was originally established by Southern Pacific on the south side of Cienega Creek in 1880, but flooding in 1887 forced relocation of the station and rail line to the north bank. The town remained until 1956. The townsite is now protected by Pima County as the Pantano Townsite Conservation Area.
